ABOUT BARRY

Barry Smith currently lives in Corbett, Oregon, a rural community about one half hour east of Portland.  Barry and his wife Michelle, celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary earlier this year.  Michelle and Barry have two sons.  Their oldest son Scott will be graduating from the University of Hawaii this year and their youngest Spencer is a junior at Boise State University.

Barry has lived most of his life in the Portland Metro area and attended Wilson High School in Portland graduating in 1983. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987 with a degree in general studies and minors in psychology and industrial education.

While raising two boys, Barry had the opportunity to coach both baseball and soccer as well as being a Boy Scout Leader for both of his boys as well as many others in the community.

Barry has been, and continues to be an active member of his local church community.

During college Barry worked summers for a Heavy Construction Contractor that specialized in Power Line and Substation Construction throughout the Western United States.  After graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987, Barry worked full time for the same company until 1994.  During those years he worked in the field, in the home office on the operations side and finished as a estimator/project manager before leaving to start his own general contracting business.

From 1994 through 1998, Barry was the president of his corporation that specialized in industrial coatings and general contractor work. Finally realizing that the demands of running both the field and office sides of the business were taking too much of a toll on his family, he made the decision to return to the “employee” sector.

From 1998 until earlier this year, Barry split duties between estimating, superintendent and project manager for a Portland area earthwork and demolition contractor.

Barry has served in many different leadership roles over the last 30 years and has realized one thing constant throughout – “those who influence lead.”  His vision is to impact not only those in the construction industry but anyone else in his community that is willing to take the time to invest in themselves to reach their full potential.

Partnering with the John Maxwell organization, Barry has now put his full time efforts working globally to help others reach their potential and overcome the challenges that we all face on a daily basis.
